Patience is a virtue, albeit a seemingly old-fashioned one. Who in today’s world wants to live with unsatisfied desires and unfulfilled dreams for long?

Matthias Sutter, one of the leading economists in the German-speaking world, is paving the way for the ebullient comeback of the neglected quality of patience. His impressive, academically respected studies have led to a surprising discovery: patience is worth just as much as talent.

Using the astonishing results of his research, Sutter shows how much we can achieve in life with perseverance, the factors that have a decisive influence on our capacity to keep going, and how we can successfully tame our own impatience as well as that of our children. Because one thing is certain: people who continue to exercise patience today will be rewarded tomorrow.

»The research findings that Sutter has collected in this book are flabbergasting«
Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung

»Matthias Suttner’s book THE DISCOVERY OF PATIENCE strengthened my belief that behavioral economics provides an important basis for political decision-making. Quite apart from the fact that it is a fascinating read, the results of research on patience are impressive, and must be taken into account in the education system.«
Dr. Sophie Karmasin, Austrian Federal Minister of Families and Youth
