Between Worlds

My Journey to the Great Opera Houses

In her book, Elīna Garanča describes her impressive life’s journey – from the farm in Latvia to the world’s grand operatic stages, from the young woman who wants to make it big to the brilliant mezzo-soprano celebrated at all her performances.

Between child and career, talent and self-discipline, native roots and far-away stages – that’s the world in which Elīna Garanča lives. In her autobiography, she talks about her unusual career. About engagements at the most important opera houses, about her parts, about her greatest successes, but also about the difficulties that came with always being on the road, as a mother of two no less, about the challenge of having to keep delivering top performances, and about calamities, such as the death of her mother. The entertainingly and movingly written memoirs of the mezzo-soprano – now in a revised and greatly extended edition.

»Elīna Garanča’s voice is addictive, making you want so much more of it.« Kurier
